The country stretches from north to south for about 50 degree in latitude, over a span of 5,500 km in distance, form the central line of Heilongjiang River's main channel, north of Mohe county, to Zengmu Reef of Nansha Islands in South China Sea. When Northeast China hits the depth of winter, Hainan Island in the south is still in its summer.

Chinese length spans for about 60 degree in longitude or more than 5,000 km in distance, from the junction of the central line of Heilongjiang and Ussuri rivers in the east to Pamir Highlands, west of Wuqia county, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the far west. When fishermen living by East China Sea sail out to work in the morning, herdsmen on Pamir Highlands are stil sound asleep at midnight.

Chinese land area is 9,600, 00 square km, ranking 3rd in the world after Russia and Canada. Besides, it also has a sea area of 3,000, 000 square km.
